Born Rich
Born Rich is the journey into the lives of people who are born into wealthy families. The film talks about these people’s mindsets and how they feel about their own wealth. The majority of the population thinks that all wealthy heirs are the same types of people. I think the biggest thing that this film has shown me is that each and everyone perceives there money differently, which makes them all completely different people.
One misconception that most people think is that if you are born rich, you do not have to work at all. Many of these types of people fit this stereotype, but a lot of them also do not. I think that this thought is wrong based on a person’s definition of work. I think that people that are born rich have to do a different type of work. Many times these people have to prove themselves to the family. They have to work hard in school and show the others that they are intelligent and worthy of the wealth that they are given. I know there is always a safety net for them where if they do fail, they will somehow still be okay at the end, but they still have to work. This work might not be to put food on the table, or to support many others, but it is something that many rich people struggle with. If you come from a rich family, standards are probably extremely high, and sometimes it might be extremely stressful and difficult to work to those standards.
Another misconception is that the money that all these people have makes them the happiest people in world. I think that this is definitely not true. Money does give people a sense of security and relief, but it is not something that should be the reason of all the happiness. Many rich families have other issues and problems that they must deal with that came from all of the money, and this can cause much unhappiness. For example, their heir of A&P said that her father went into drugs and very bad business and she had that her mom think that if her father did not inherit all of the money, he would be a happy simple man. Money does not cause lasting happiness either. Many of the heirs said that the money was fun to have when they were young, but after they matured, they realized that there is not much to strive for, and their life somewhat becomes meaning less. From this, I think that money does not fully equate to happiness, because there are many other things that translate to everlasting happiness, like the bonds with other people, that these wealthy people might not have.
The biggest lesson that I learned from watching this movie was that money is not everything. In most cases, money is essential in everyone’s lives, but to a certain extent. As seen from the extremely wealthy, more money can cause so many more problems. As seen by the misconception, being born rich also does not mean that your life can be a struggle, whether is proving yourself to your family, or living under the shadow of the fortune. Some say that it is never bad to have too much money, but I think that sometimes when you do have a high surplus of money, things do become harder to keep in check. Having too much money can lead to the loss of other things in life, like friends and family, if not balanced properly.
